The contract is from July through the end of June 2028. The council also unanimously approved a contract with the Newton Board of Education for a police officer to become a "resource officer" for the district, the first time in a decade the two boards have had such an agreement. "They (grantors) liked the idea of providing a link from a public park to a bike trail," Russo said. In announcing the award, Town Manager Tom Russo said Newton was among 47 grants awarded in this round from more than 700 applications. Currently the Newton accesses to the trail are from Stuart Street or Hicks Avenue, which have limited parking. With the link from the park, bikers can now park their motorized vehicles in Memory Park's lot. The $749,000 grant was approved through the Department of Transportation and will give bike riders following the old railroad tracks a convenient way to access the state-owned network of rails-to-trails across Sussex County. Not Available Dams for which the downstream hazard potential is restricted to approved government users.Newton has been awarded a state grant for construction of a trail to connect the Sussex Branch bicycle trail directly with Memory Park. Undetermined Dams for which a downstream hazard potential has not been designated or is not provided. Losses are principally limited to the owner's property. Low Dams assigned the low hazard potential classification are those where failure or mis-operation results in no probable loss of human life and low economic and/or environmental losses. Significant hazard potential classification dams are often located in predominantly rural or agricultural areas but could be in areas with population and significant infrastructure. Significant Dams assigned the significant hazard potential classification are those dams where failure or mis-operation results in no probable loss of human life but can cause economic loss, environment damage, disruption of lifeline facilities, or impact other concerns. Hazard Potential Classification High Dams assigned the high hazard potential classification are those where failure or mis-operation will probably cause loss of human life. Not Available Dams for which the condition assessment is restricted to approved government users. Not Rated The dam has not been inspected, is not under state or federal jurisdiction, or has been inspected but, for whatever reason, has not been rated. Unsatisfactory A dam safety deficiency is recognized that requires immediate or emergency remedial action for problem resolution. Investigations and studies are necessary. ![]() POOR may also be used when uncertainties exist as to critical analysis parameters which identify a potential dam safety deficiency. Note: Rare or extreme event is defined by the regulatory agency based on their minimum Poor A dam safety deficiency is recognized for normal operating conditions which may realistically occur. Risk may be in the range to take further action. Rare or extreme hydrologic and/or seismic events may result in a dam safety deficiency. Fair No existing dam safety deficiencies are recognized for normal operating conditions. Acceptable performance is expected under all loading conditions (static, hydrologic, seismic) in accordance with the minimum applicable state or federal regulatory criteria or tolerable risk guidelines. Fire Protection, Stock, Or Small Fish PondĬondition Assessment Satisfactory No existing or potential dam safety deficiencies are recognized. ![]()
